I feel actually pretty disturbed after reading this article. Both these gangs were murdering people, and then bragging about it? I find it quite disgusting, and don't really get, how these guys can just murder someone and then boast about it to another gang. The keeping score of each of the gangs murders, too, really put me over the top, and got me extremely angry and sad by the actions these gangs did, and probably still do.

Facebook Friends Boasted of Gang War
Members of the two gangs in East New York, The Very Crispy Gangsters & The Rockstarz, became Facebook friends boasting about how many murders each gang had. They would keep score and taunted each other endlessly. Because they bragged non stop, investigators were able to draw a virtual map of their activities and bring them to justice. This "war" has been going on for 3 years now, and 2 members of the Very Crispy Gangsters, and 1 from the Rockstarz are dead. After each murder one of the two gangs had done, they would post a picture and write, for example, Rockstarz are 3-0. This Wednesday, the city's police commissioners made an announcement of the indictment of the 49 members of the two gangs. The charges include murder, attempted murder and conspiracy.

Hey Gabby,
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's definitely disturbing to think of people keeping score in a murder "contest." It's hard to understand the logic behind it and the lack of sympathy these gang members have. I think it would be interesting to find out why these to people were in a gang to begin with. I think that they are obviously not the most intelligent people if they publicly posted the crimes they've committed. Not only can that be a red flag for police officers and investigators, but it could have gotten them in trouble with other gangs or members of their own gangs. Good article choice, very interesting.
Maddie
Hey guys!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that it is disturbing to think that they can brag about their murders. On a sociological viewpoint, even though it disturbs me, I'm happy they did brag about it because it enabled the police force to trace their trail. I'd like to think that most crimes are committed from low IQ and not just psychological disorders (now that's just my hope)because at least you can try to teach those with low IQ's while psychological disorders seem harder to treat. Like Maddie said, I agree they may not be the most intelligent people for bragging about they're crimes. Because both the crimes and bragging have such a strong relationship with the IQ of the criminals, I predict that this kind of situation will happen more and more through social media (which is hopeful, because at least the criminals can then be traced and eventually- hopefully- caught). Really interesting stuff Gab! Thank you!
Shaina
Maddy- I'll be posting sometime soon about why people join gangs! I'm going to look more into it because it's really interesting from what I've read so far!
ReplyDeleteShaina- I'm actually kind of happy too that they bragged about it because now they are in prison, and that's where they belong for what they did!
Thanks guys! (:
Hi Gabby!
ReplyDeleteI really like your article choice and think that it actually makes a lot of interesting points. For one, the gang members were so quick to brag about their murders its disgusting! That really shows their lack of empathy and respect for human life. Also, it proves they're just plain stupid (as Maddie and Shaina said, too). In addition, the whole situation shows how invasive social media is becoming in today's society... my blog topic is social media so I found it really interesting that even gang members are using it as a place to keep score! Overall, I think that the story is super sad, but also gives a lot of input into what is valued in gangs so good job writing about it!
Sarah :)
That article is beyond disturbing! As if gang violence wasn't bad enough, but now that rival gangs are attacking each other... no good can come out of that. I found an article similar to yours showing violence between rival gangs. This attack included teenagers between the ages of 15 and 17 HOW RIDICULOUS IS THAT?!

Read the article, and it's so sad reading this.. These kids are so young and have so much going for them, but instead they choose the wrong path. I hope they spend a lot of time in prison for what they did to that poor kid, and learn from their mistakes! Truly disgusting & horrifying. Thanks for showing me that!!
