I'm pretty sure most of you are familiar with the hit song from Korea, Gangnam Style. And I'm sure most of you are familiar with the dance, because even gang members know it apparently.
Last Friday, two teenage rival gangs were out all night partying and drinking and confronted each other later that night. They both put on a dance contest by mimicking Gangnam Style dancing. The dance off between the two gang rivals turned into a lot more than just dancing. Soon, the dancing became into a fight which spilled over into a shooting. Apparently, one of the two groups left the dance showdown and showed up with weapons. Over 50 shots were fired after this dance showdown.
This dance showdown became more than just a dance showdown by the intensity becoming inevitable between them, so weapons were bound to come into this. Because of this shooting, several cars were hit, none injured thankfully.
I think this whole scenario was really stupid and immature in a way. The two gang rivals were just looking for trouble by starting this whole thing. I don't get why they had a dance off, or why they even confronted each other. Nothing good was bound to come out of this.. This was something that could have been prevented and could have never happened.

It's scary to see the effects that gangs have on each other. As rivalries surface, whether it just be dance-offs, the gangs can turn from having simple contests to being dangerous and threatening. These threats have an impact on society, as (in this situation) people could have been seriously injured. Just because of the sole purpose of winning a dance off, people's entire livelihood could have been effected. I believe that gangs effect society largely.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe they would even meet for a dance off in the first place. wouldn't the violence be expected if they were to meet? Its a miracle that no one was hurt
ReplyDeleteIt's like the West Side Story effect- rules are put in place, but the anger and pride gets so out of control that someone gets hurt every time, without fail. It just shows how pride and general anger have a huge play in gang rivalries.
ReplyDeleteThis is just upsetting to hear. Everyone has definitely tried attempting to dance to Gangnam Style (even me) for the purpose of wholesome fun and silliness. It's really sad to see how such a crazy phenomena has led to such serious violence. This story really makes you think how far will someone go to spoil another one's joy for the sake of participating in a gang?
